Join us on a room-by-room tour of this remodeled home, inspired by images of rustic Midwestern farmhouses, yet designed for today’s busy families.
This older home was rebuilt in a farmhouse style for a couple and one of their parents. On the main level, the kitchen, pantry, bar, dining, and living room were part of the original footprint. The additional began in the sunroom, continued through the hall to the half bath and master suite, and included the upstairs spaces.
Shiplap and Cabinetry Seating
In this remodel, Studio M Kitchen & Bath designed cabinetry throughout the entire home.
As you walk in the front door, you immediately grasp the farmhouse feel with the white shiplap details in the living room and into the kitchen.
The kitchen is a large, two-part open-concept space to entertain and cook. The butler’s pantry was created to stage dishes, hide messes while guests are over and to serve as a baking center. The cabinets, by Dura Supreme Cabinetry, painted white on a shaker style door. The butler’s pantry cabinets are painted Gale Force by Sherwin Williams.

A bar area and more cabinetry storage was added to the kitchen and built into a rustic bricked wall.
The shiplap in the kitchen is exterior shiplap siding, a noncombustible material that meets local building code for being close to a professional-grade range.
The kitchen island and butler’s pantry feature Silestone engineered quartz countertops, while the perimeter counters feature a dark quartz from Silestone.
The flooring is hand-scraped engineered maple. The custom Dura Supreme range hood is knotty alder finished with a dark stain that matches the wood and finish of the kitchen island and adjacent bar. Bringing in wood adds another element to the primarily white kitchen. “It’s nice to incorporate that warmth,” says Claire Teunissen, the design assistant for this project. “Otherwise all white can feel a little sterile.”
The Top Knobs brass cabinet hardware added another element of warmth and kept with the transitional theme.
Entryway/Mudroom
The mudroom/entryway features more cabinetry built into a decorative bricked wall. This adds storage and style to a small nook.
Master Bathroom Design, Double Vanities by Dura Supreme
Our cabinetry is also featured in the master bathroom. This space includes his and hers custom designed bathroom vanities by Dura Supreme, a freestanding tub, glass-door shower and the ever-so-popular herringbone tile floor.
Continuing past the master bedroom, the laundry room features side-by-side washer and dryer units with surrounding Dura Supreme cabinetry and a single floating shelf. This design adds both character and storage to a necessary area.
Laundry Room Design
The upstairs includes two bedrooms, a guest bathroom, and an apartment suite. In the guest bathroom, a beautiful transitional style bathroom vanity is paired with clean and classic hexagon floor tile and subway wall tile.
Guest Bathroom
The apartment suite, shown in the photo below, also includes a bedroom and bathroom. Custom cabinets span the wall of the living area and make the cozy space both charming and functional.
